Looking forward to a fun Summer of Tricks this year! Come have fun with your dog while learning some very cute new behaviors. Trick classes are appropriate for all ages, from puppies to old dogs. Learning new tricks in a fun, no pressure environment helps dogs build confidence and develop their problem solving skills all while having fun with you. Tricks are also a great way to teach your dog body awareness, focus, distance, impulse control and a variety of other skills that will help you in every day life and in sports activities. As Silvia Trkman says, "It's all tricks!" If you teach everything as a trick, you and your dog will be have a great time learning together.
Classes will be held at the Cash Arena in Sherwood in the cool morning hours in August on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Classes run for 4 weeks from August 6th through the 28th, $100. These will be group classes with all dogs working at the same time, which is a great way to help your dog learn to work around other dogs, but, please, no reactive or aggressive dogs. If you have any question if your dog would be appropriate, please message me for more information.
This year we have three different Trick classes available (descriptions below!) and AKC Trick Title testing (from Novice through Performer) is available in any class for those that are interested (AKC title charges apply when you send in your froms).
All About TricksFor all ages, from puppies to old dogs, this all around class is looking at introducing a variety of tricks along with exploring different training methods to get there. We will focus on tricks that are appropriate for most dogs and behaviors that will build to become more advanced tricks. For reference, we will be covering many of the tricks in the AKC Novice/Intermediate level (those lists can be seen here!)
|
Tricks for Advanced DogsFor dogs that have mastered the basics and are ready to put them together into more complex tricks using a variety of methods. We will be looking to challenge both dogs and handlers to step up their game and look at more advanced chains and combinations of behaviors, depending on the level of the class. For reference, we may look at tricks more along the level of AKC Advanced/Performer (lists can be seen here!)

Can You Shape It?For the clicker trainers, this class focuses on teaching behaviors solely by shaping. This will challenge the dog and handler to really focus on shaping and problem solving without using other methods, and really teaches the dog to think independently and learn to offer behavior while communicating with their handler purely with the clicker. This class is appropriate for any age of dog, keeping in mind that the goal is to use ONLY shaping to train these behaviors.
