Online Foundation - Coming in November 2020!
We're trying something new this Winter - online Agility Foundation! While ideally I would be able to offer a new Foundation class for everyone that is looking, especially this year it just isn't possible. As we head into Winter and it looks like we will continue to be limited in what's available, I still want to offer something to get dogs started in agility at home.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
Anyone looking to create a positive, play based working relationship with their dog - puppy or adult. This class is for someone who wants structure and community while working through the Foundation program at home - and a LOT of fun exercises, there is a lot to cover! While we will be focusing on agility as being the final goal, this class does not require any equipment and can be taken even if you don't plan to continue in agility or just want to have a series of fun training challenges with your novice dog. This class can also be for an experienced dog that needs to go back to basics, gain confidence and develop relationship. This class does not require you to be local to me, but dogs that graduate from my online Foundation program will get preferential placement into in-person Beginning Agility (starting equipment training) classes when they are offered. This class assumes you know nothing and your dog has done no other training (though it certainly always helps if they have!).
WHAT WILL THIS CLASS OFFER?
The Online Foundation Support Group will cover a large portion of my Agility Foundation program. We will look at play, self control, focus, relationship, engagement, problem solving, stationing, shaping behaviors, tricks, body awareness, handling, conditioning basics and, of course, agility flatwork and games! The goal is once a dog has graduated from this program they are ready to get started on equipment as they already have a great relationship, understand how to learn, can negotiate all the agility moves on the flat as well as focus and show great self control with distraction.
HOW WILL THIS CLASS WORK?
This class will be run similar to my Quarantine Challenge classes, on a private Facebook Page OR through email if you don't wank to get involved with Facebook (but it's more fun with others - trust me!). This will be 12 week course with 6 lessons posted bi-weekly with a couple breaks to let everyone catch up (and celebrate the holidays!). I will send out a checklist of homework (approximately) every two weeks with descriptions, training progressions and video demonstrations. You will send in videos to show your progress and can ask any questions along the way. Some behaviors presented I consider 'Core' Behaviors and what I recommend focusing on, but there will be additional fun behaviors that I recommend, but may not be the right choice for your dog and are 'Optional'. At the end of the of program, if your dog has completed all the Core Behaviors (with video proof!) you will become a BAA Foundation Graduate - and there will be prizes as well! For those wanting to continue, you will be ready to start in-person classes.
DATES? COSTS? REGISTRATION?
The BAA Online Agility Foundation Support Group (or BOAFSG?) starts November 9th, 2020 and runs into Feb 2021 - 12 weeks with a couple breaks/catch up weeks as we go along. The cost is $350 for a working spot, $100 for auditing. If you are interested, email me ([email protected]) to put on the list, I will be opening registration soon - spaces are limited as I want to make sure I can focus on everyone. Should make for a very fun winter at home!
